We are offering a variety of talks & workshops all to do with art at various weekends. Visiting artist and specialist introducing new topics and subjects.

Drawing & Painting Workshop, Sat 21 & Sun 22 September 2019, 10-4pm
Artist and art lecturer Ewen Duncan will work with complete beginners to experienced artists during this painting & drawing weekend

Studying Plant Form Workshop – Late Summer Splendour,
Sun 29 September 2019, 10-4pm
Study closely the structure of some September plants and explore the glorious colours of the season. Jill Dow will guide you to work in pencil, ink and watercolour, capturing the beauty of late summer flowers, with ripening seedheads, fruits and berries adding to the richness of colour and texture – suitable for all levels.

Watercolour Workshop – autumn colours, Sat 5 October 2019, 10-4pm
During the day you will explore ways of producing expressive effects and textures using watercolour paints focusing on the colours of autumn. Artist and art lecturer Frances Douglas will support and guide each individual to incorporate various ideas and techniques into your paintings.

christmas decoration workshop

Ceramic workshop, Christmas decoration
Sun 3 November 2019, 10-4pm
Create your very own Christmas decoration or beautiful hand build gifts for this Christmas. Apply simple and more complex pottery techniques to create pattern and texture using the variety of cutters and stamps available in the studio guided by ceramicist Lorna MacKay. You can choose from a range of the glaze colours and the items will be glazed ready for collection at the studio approx. 2 weeks later – we will email confirmation. Finished pieces can also be posted – this can be arranged in the class. All levels welcome.

NEW Bookbinding Workshop – Sat 9 November 2019, 10-4pm
Create a special item during this new book binding course. A perfect gift idea for Christmas. Make a handbound book with new or upcycled materials. During the day Frances Douglas will teach you all the necessary techniques to create a beautiful piece of art of your own design.

NEW Lino Printing Workshop – Christmas Cards, Sun 24 November 2019, 10-4pm
Lino cutting and printing with artist Jill Dow. A step by step introduction of designing, cutting and printing your very own Christmas cards. You can create your own bold and simple design, using one or two colours.  Suitable for beginners as well as for those with some experience of relief printing.

•    how to use one or more inks
•    how to print by hand and using a printing press

Watercolour Workshop – introduction to watercolour, Sat 30 November 2019, 10-4pm Frances Douglas has broad experience in teaching art. Her passion for water colour is reflected in her translucent and vibrant paintings. In this introduction workshop you will learn how to uses this versatile medium in traditional and contemporary ways .

ceramic handbuid

Ceramic workshop, from conception to completion – hand building
Saturday 14 March 2020, 10-4pm
Handbuilding techniques will be demonstrated and students will be encouraged to explore these techniques. Guided by ceramicist Lorna MacKay you will work on your individual vision for the work you wish to produce. All levels welcome.

•    The properties of clay
•    Preparation of clay
•    Techniques of pinching, coiling & slap building
•    Application of coloured slips The completed work will be fired and glazed ready for collection in two weeks (postal delivery can be arranged)
